Sandmark Custom Home’s Builds the Harrell’s their OBX Oceanfront Dream Home
The Harrell’s House remodeled in 2010.
In the summer of 2010, a friend notified us that they’d passed our name along to friends who were looking to remodel their home in Southern Shores. Jimmy & Becky Harrell were frustrated, they’d spent time and money with other designers and builders and had nothing to show for it. They wanted to know if Sandmark Custom Homes could handle their remodel.
The Harrell’s were headed out of town on a business trip for a couple weeks. We met on a late Friday afternoon, toured the home and spent several hours discussing they wanted in their home. They live in Elizabeth City and use the beach house with family, friends and business associates.
Saturday, Mark designed a few preliminary sketches based on their input. We met again Saturday evening to go review the sketches and discuss ideas. By Sunday evening, the preliminary sketches for the remodeling were complete and pricing provided based on the finishes in the home.
Construction began in September 2010. We raised the existing house 5 feet to create a new family room, exercise room, bathroom, and garage. All four bedrooms were enlarged and a new bathroom was added. Now each bedroom has its own bathroom. An elevator was added and we created a new third floor complete with a new kitchen, living room, dining room, powder room, and pantry.
Fast forward to 2017. Jimmy’s dreams of owning an OBX oceanfront dream home were realized in early 2017 when Jeff Scott and Sandy Martin found the Harrell’s an oceanfront property in Southern Shores. In June, Sandmark Custom Homes removed all of the juniper floorings out of the old house, donated some appliances worth saving, and tore the house down.
