November 11th marks what would have been our sweet Layla’s 15th birthday. It’s hard to grasp that it’s been 2½ months since she left us, yet, I can picture her vividly—running, swimming, and chasing tennis balls in the boundless fields of the beyond. Her heavenly days surely end with a serving of her favorite doggie ice cream.
Celebrating Layla’s Legacy
Layla had a routine that she and her fellow furry friends cherished. Her evenings were incomplete without her beloved ice cream treat, a ritual she shared with her best buddies—Andy, Pepper, Mia, and the late Zoey. Amanda, Rocky & Jett recently had to say goodbye to Zoey, and I know they’re all together now, enjoying these small joys just like they used to with us on earth.
A Special Treat for a Special Friend
In honor of Layla, I’m sharing her cherished ice cream recipe. It’s a simple, homemade dog treat that brought immense joy to her life and is sure to delight your pups too.
Layla’s Doggie Ice Cream Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 32 oz. container of Dannon Vanilla Yogurt
- 2 Bananas
- 2 Tablespoons of Peanut Butter
- 1 Tablespoon of Honey
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together in your blender until smooth.
- Pour the mixture into individual cups (apple sauce containers work great).
- Place them in the freezer until they’re firm.
Serving Suggestions
Each evening, Layla would remind us it was ice cream time by standing by the refrigerator if we were late. This simple ritual became a bonding experience, not just with Layla but with our entire circle of pets.
