Dare County Flood Maps – Information You Need to Know

Dare County has received the Letter of Final Determination (LOFD) from FEMA.  This LOFD establishes an effective date of June 19, 2020, for the revised flood maps for Dare County.  Now Dare County can begin the implementation procedures for the adoption of the flood maps in 2020.  In conjunction with the flood maps, the Dare County Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance must also be updated.

The Dare County Planning Board will hold two public information meetings about the new flood maps for Dare County and discuss proposed regulations for development in unincorporated Dare County that are being considered in conjunction with revised maps. The first meeting will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. at the Dare County Board of Commissioners Meeting Room in Manteo, NC located at 954 Marshall Collins Drive. The second meeting will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2020, in Buxton, NC at the Dare County Fessenden Center located at 46830 NC 12 Highway.    The new flood maps will become effective on June 19, 2020.

The Town of Kill Devil Hill’s Planning Board will begin a review of the Town’s Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance at their February 11, 2020 meeting. This meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. and will be held at the Kill Devil Hills Town Hall located at 102 Town Hall Drive in Kill Devil Hills.
