Let’s raise a glass to Sandy Martin, the winner of the Cliff Neal Humanitarian of the Year! Join me in recognizing her remarkable contributions.
Since her arrival in the Outer Banks in 1996, Sandy has become an integral part of the Sandmark Custom Homes family. For those fortunate enough to have met her, you know how bright she shines, both inside and out. While Mark often takes the spotlight, Sandy is the driving force behind our well-oiled machine.
Let me share a few examples of why Sandy is so deserving of this prestigious award. From day one, she immersed herself in the Outer Banks community, serving on numerous committees at the Outer Banks Home Builders Association and the Board of Directors for the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS®. Not only did she participate in multiple homes showcased in the OBX Parade of Homes, but also actively contributed to social, scholarship, and legislative committees. Sandy played a crucial role as a liaison between the Realtor and Homebuilder Board of Directors, bridging the gap between these two organizations.
In addition, Sandy’s dedication extended to charitable endeavors. She spearheaded the HBA’s involvement in the Dare County Relay for Life, raising an impressive $350,000 over the years. She has also committed herself to the Outer Banks Hospital Development Council, where she currently holds the position of Chair. Through her efforts, Sandy is raising funds for the new Cancer Center, all in the name of the OBHBA membership. Her tireless commitment has brought her face-to-face with local officials, national homebuilder members, and politicians – all while championing the HBA.
Moreover, Sandy demonstrated extraordinary care and compassion. When Matt Tappero tragically passed away, she graciously stepped in to assist his wife, Denice, in completing their unfinished projects. Their bond became unbreakable, a testament to the genuine friendship they share.
There is so much more to say about Sandy’s outstanding contributions, but let’s just acknowledge her incredible dedication and unwavering spirit. She truly embodies the spirit of the Cliff Neal Humanitarian of the Year award.
