Healthy-ish Tip of the Month: March 2020
Breaking the Vicious Cycle of Failure
The Vicious Cycle of Failure sets you up to fail at exercise and diet programs over and over again, regardless of your best intentions, they reinforce the negative meaning you hold for exercise and healthy eating, making you feel bad about yourself. Did you know that numerous research studies show that people’s most common motivations for exercise (weight loss & better health) have actually been associated with doing the least amount of exercise? People lose motivation, make excuses, and frankly don’t care about “better health” when that 5 am alarm clock goes off and its 40 degrees outside. People don’t think twice about stopping at McDonald’s for that fourth or fifth Big Mac of the week and it’s only Wednesday. Before you can break up with The Vicious Cycle of Failure, you have to determine your why… your Right Why.
Here are some questions to ask yourself:
- What gets you up in the morning?
- What lights a fire under you?
- What excites you?
Is it having more energy? It is being a more patient parent? Loving spouse? More creative boss? Whatever your Right Why might be, I want you to think of that as your motivation before your next meal, your next step, or the next time you say you’re too tired or too busy. Trust me, the weight will come off, your confidence will build, and you will be one step closer to functioning at your full potential.
Until next month,
